Join us for the inaugural Screen Players Film Club, with a screening of “Marianne and Leonard: Words of Love” followed by an in-depth interview with the legendary Nick Broomfield, the man Louis Theroux describes as “the star of documentary making.”
“Marianne and Leonard: Words of Love” is a sunlit romance, exploring the achingly painful love between the singer Leonard Cohen and his soulmate and muse Marianne Ihlen. It’s a film suffused with the bright light of the Greek island of Hydra, and the beautiful songs that Marianne inspired: “So long, Marianne”, “Hey, That’s No Way to Say Goodbye” and “Bird on the Wire”.
Post-screening, Nick will discuss how his deeply personal and dreamily romantic documentary came about in a live podcast interview with Charlotte Bogard Macleod.
Later, we will be joined on stage by a very special guest - the singer, songwriter, composer and Bastille frontman - Dan Smith.
His latest song, Leonard and Marianne, was inspired by Nick’s film.
SCREEN PLAYERS is a new podcast series with screenwriters, directors, actors and producers opening up the creative process of some of the most iconic and best-loved films of all time.
SCREEN PLAYERS is presented by The Script Factory, in association with The Cinema In The Power Station and Soho Square Studios
“Oh, this is just lovely.”
